PREGNANCY FILE: CIRCUS THEMED BABY SHOWER

Miami fashion blogger
When I first sat down to write this post, we hadn't had our baby girl yet! We are happy to announce that Harper O was born on July 15th. Before her birth, we had no idea what her gender would be.  We were actually able to keep the surprise until the day-of!
Miami fashion blogger

When it came time to select a baby shower theme, there were a few gender-neutral ideas I tossed around: night/stars, animals/zoo/jungle, and circus.  I ended up going with the circus themed baby shower - so happy I did!  With the help of Pinterest and Google, and a lot of early mornings, I planned what ended up being a really perfect day.  My best friend pitched in and came through with the Nostalgia Popcorn Machine which was the ultimate finishing touch. This took a lot of work, and a lot of help from family and friends. We are so thankful to my Dad and our parents and loved ones.

Read below for circus themed baby shower inspo and a breakdown of how we made it all happen.

PREGNANCY FILE: AFFORDABLE MATERNITY DRESSES

affordable maternity dressWe have a lot of new things to chat about - and no time to chat about them in! I'll try to give you a quick summary. I am in my third trimester now; turned 28 weeks on Saturday. We also just moved! In case anyone was wondering, I do not recommend moving while six months pregnant. Our home is still upside down. Things are still in boxes, and I have no idea where I'm going to stash all of this makeup that I've hoarded over the years. My feet are swollen, I wake up at all hours, work stress and schedule has not lightened up...oh, and where is my concealer?! I have so many broken capillaries and angiomas from throwing up that I can't live without it.

During my pregnancy, I've been fortunate in that I've not needed to invest in many pieces. I have a really kind co-worker who handed down a few pair of her maternity jeans - I've worn them daily. I purchased a pair from a brand called Angel Maternity jeans (also try this pair, or this pair of denim leggings) I've pretty much lived in them my entire pregnancy (even arguing an motion for summary judgment in a pair - shhh). As for dresses, I've mostly managed to stick with the same dresses I owned before; anything that has stretchy fabric is a 'go' (like this basic jersey dress by Leith).

There is this option from Bumpsuit which is a maternity wear brand. It's a great Fall layering piece.

Lafayette 148 New York is a line of perfectly crafted clothing, with a super luxe feel. Made up of pieces that feature clean, crisp lines and classic silhouettes, shopping at Lafayette 148 New York means you'll find something perfect. Closet staples like pencil skirts and easy blouses make finding a modern, professional look a breeze, but you'll also find chic pieces for lazy summer days.

Fellow fashionable ESQ's and 'nine-to-fiver'ers' will find beautiful blazers as well as workwear pieces that will help take your office look to the next level.

Miami locals: a new Lafayette 148 New York boutique has opened in Brickell City Centre! Check it out and shop the pieces I'm wearing in this look, specifically, my beautiful, light blue jacket, that's exclusive to the Lafayette 148 New York boutiques and website.

Magique at Faena, Miami, Date Night Outfit

The Faena Hotel has brought an entirely new feel to Miami's nightlife and arts scene.  I mean, when Baz Lurhman helps design the interiors of your hotel, I think you're in good shape! Just saying. Faena, and its umbrella developments that span over six blocks of Miami beach water front, have been credited with breathing new life to the area south of 30th & Collins. Faena Theater is located inside the hotel. It's a throwback to the 1970's, when dinner theaters were having their moment (that's what Wikipedia says). It's a pretty interesting place. Every now and then, we make our way to the hotel and theater, to check out what new shows are playing. It makes for a great date night.

Playing currently is Kevin & Caruso's Magique; a not-so-ordinary magic show, filled with illusions, handmade costumes, and lots of sequins (on show girls). It's set to the tune of some 90's jams, with some current Top Ten stuff throw in, which makes it fun. Because the dinner theater is small and intimate, you're guaranteed a good seat. It's a fun and unique experience that I recommend for a fun night out.

Ticket Info:
Bonus: two drinks, complimentary with each ticket purchase.
Magique runs through the end of may, every Tuesday and Sunday.
Tickets: available here.$65 adults / $45 for children (although, it's not much of a gig for kids in my opinion) or you can e-mail for reservations: faenatheater@faena.com.

Eye Look: Urban Decay Moonstone Palette

Urban Decay sent over the Moondust palette for me to play with and it's been non-stop fun ever since I opened the package. It's a very colorful, sparkly palette with 8 shadows. The palette has a large, hinged mirror.  A definite plus!  As usual, Urban Decay packaging does not disappoint!  Each shadow packs high shine, and can be worn wet or dry. The swatches below are dry swatches, swiped once, with no primer. They're pigmented, but do take some getting used to because there is fallout with certain shades. I personally don't mind that too much, but it's worth mentioning. When you wet these, they become more opaque and almost take on a cream to powder texture. Wetting them is the best way to get full-on lid color, but it does change the tonality of the shades a bit. That's actually the fun in this palette, because the shadows shift color with the light. Keep reading below for full swatches and to see a look I created with the palette.

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2016: Workwear Edit

Nordstrom Anniversary SALE is upon us next week.  I love Nordstorm because it's close to where I live, has a great return policy (also free shipping and returns), and has a wonderful selection of workwear pieces. My hope this year, with this guide, is to show you how you can easily navigate the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale when you're looking for workwear.

I do have some favorite workwear brands that Nordstrom carries, like Chelsea 28 for blouses and wide leg trousers. Another brand that does not get much credit but that does have good staples is Eileen Fisher, who has a great casual, long cardigan, and a slim ankle pant. Sometimes these ankle pants are a good option for casual office days, but many like J.Crew's Minnie Pant and the Banana Republic Sloan can be way too spandexy and tight for the office.  Many women end up looking like they're wrapped up in a sausage casing when they wear them, so, to avoid that, try something with a more relaxed fit.

The Best Sheath Dress for Work: is not too tight, hits on or below the knee, and preferably has a higher (modest) neckline.  My pick is this dress by Lafayette 148. It has a traditional silhouette and is so classic. The addition of the contrasting piping is perfect.

The Perfect Pencil Skirt For Work: Nordstrom carries Anne Klein, Tahari and Ellen Tracy - basically all workwear masters.  AK makes the Suit Pencil Skirt which pairs with this blazer. The quality is good, it's lightweight fabric despite the material, it's lined, and not too fitted through the hips.  It also has pintucking in the back, parallel to the zipper, which makes for a great fit.  I also like this pencil skirt by Ellen Tracy because the slit is off to the side, and isn't too high. A reasonably priced option can be found here, by Halogen.

I also manage a workwear page on Google+ and would love it if you joined and contributed by posting your chic office style!

Miami Swim Week with Wildfox

Wildfox is generally one of the most anticipated shows of Miami Swim Week.  This year, instead of their traditional runway show, the brand opted for a nighttime, poolside presentation at the Delano Hotel. While this allowed us to get very close to the action, it was a bit difficult to photograph the looks for you because the lighting was dim, but at times, also very over exposed and harsh.

I can say, that the looks were true to the Wildfox brand; easy, and no-fuss T-shirts, pajama shorts, and crop tops.  Cheeky sayings ("Nobody Owns The Beach") on their tees and swimwear, along with oversized jumpsuits made for a fun and playful atmosphere.

The cuts on the swimwear were pretty cool too - they had styles that tied from underneath the bust, down through the torso, and also showcased halter style tops that would be really great for those among you who are more well endowed than...me :)

Had some fun with Annie & Giselle recently at a weekend getaway, tucked deep into the Venetian Causeway on Miami Beach.  The weather is very touch-and-go here in Miami, but the constant is the heat and the humidity. Miami summers call for light and airy sun dresses and swimsuit coverups.  You probably don't realize it, but many of your favorite swimwear brands like Luli Fama, Pily Q, Indah, etc, also make chic accessories to go along with their swimwear lines.  Acacia is one such brand, who puts out beautiful bikinis but also does flip flops, kimonos and coverups.  I'm wearing the Acacia St. Tropez dress in the color Pacific Tides.  The longer maxi version is here and the matching bikini here.

Gissi snapped these pictures.  She's a great photographer and these blurry pics are not a reflection on her abilities at all!  My 50mm lens has been giving me problems lately.  All of the pictures are blurry and grainy! Have you all run into this issue with this lens?

Beauty File: Beauty Products That Make Life Easier For The Woman On The Go!

Good morning! One of the worst things about the 9 to 5 grind (which ends up being more like 7 to 7 some days) is trying to incorporate a beauty routine that gets you out the door quickly but doesn't leave you looking like you did your make up with your left hand, in the dark.

Call it vain, but the truth is -  appearance counts, even when you have the credentials to back up whatever it is you're bringing to the table.  Simply said: you don't want to make an appearance in court, or at a meeting, looking like you slept in your car.

Lucky for you, you read my blog, so today, you'll know what I know.  The list below is made up of products that are designed to help speed up your morning ritual and last through a long work day.  They're fast-acting and convenient for a busy lifestyle.

1) Silicon Mix with Bambu.  A deeply moisturizing and conditioning hair mask, that works in less than 5 minutes.  For my Miami girls, this is a drug store find from Navarro.  Everyone else can buy it on Amazon.  Nothing that I've ever tried, be it high end or otherwise, has compared to this.  This leaves my hair super soft and shiny.  It penetrates quickly and rinses cleanly without leaving residue.  It helps detangle my long hair.

Style File: Casual Fridays + Flats For The Office

Workwear 9 to 5 Style for the office
Although I rarely wear them, ballet flats can be a good option for the office on casual office days.  I personally do not like how I look in flats, but I have recently suffered a back injury and have been forced to temporarily retire my heels.  Switching gears and introducing flats into my work wardrobe was a welcomed change of pace.  That's why I was so happy when Mia Shoes sent over these adorable snakeprint ballet flats, the Mia Ballerina. Flats also pair well with denim - especially skinny jeans.

Boho Weekend

Do you have a lot of yellow in your wardrobe? I know a lot of you shy away from the color but I think it's perfect for the spring and summer months.  If you're still not ready to take the all yellow plunge, begin by incorporating it in small doses, like the ikat print of my tunic.  Some great summer options are this dress and this dress. No matter what your skintone, yellow will help illuminate and brighten your complexion. While we're on the topic, how cute is this one piece lightning bolt bathing suit by Wildfox

Weekend Look

You know me, I'm a firm believer in easy weekend style.  T-shirt dresses that you can just put on without any zipping or tying, and shoes that you can just slide right into, without even thinking about messing with a buckle - yes, yes and yes. Today's outfit is exactly that: easy.

Miami Fashion Blogger
Everything about this J.Crew Factory dress is perfect for the weather right now. I am loving how airy and light it is.  You can get some really good deals on their site this weekend (the dress is $22).  The entire site is 50% off.

I'm adoring the newest addition to my shoe closet family: the Vince Allison Mule (here in black) is minimalistic perfection. I ordered them off of Shopbop at first and they sent me a used, worn pair! Saks more than made up for it when I saw them go on sale after purchase, and they accommodated me with a price adjustment. It's the little things!  These run a tad on the small side, if you're between sizes then size up a full size.  I was worried that the peep toe opening would be too wide, but it's not. My toes stay where they're supposed to.  Arabella makes a very similar open toed mule - and this pair is currently down from $200 to $60! That's a bargain ;)

Little Black Dress for The Office: 9 to 5 Style File, Work Wear

Hi! My 9 to 5 Style File continues today (FRIDAY, YAY!!) with the classic LBD (little black dress).
The LBD will forever be a closet staple for every woman.  There are countless ways to style one, but maybe the best part about them is that they do not involve much thought...so if you really don't have the time or energy to put an entire outfit together, you can definitely still achieve an office-chic look without thinking by just hopping into a LBD.

For this look, I threw on a leopard cardigan over a little black dress, and cinched the waist with a gold belt. You can tone it down for the office by eliminating the red lipstick and the super large, sparkly earrings. Keep them in your work bag and add them when the clock strikes 5 ;)

Finding the right little black dress is easy once you have narrowed down the style that you're going for. For the office I like a classic high neck, shift or a wrap dress.  You can narrow it down further by deciding if you want sleeveless or a slight sleeve.  I like this pencil dress from Nordstrom.  It is a good office length, has a high neck and a little cap sleeve and is ultra classic.

You can achieve my favorite lazy girl bun (which was toppling over in these shots...great) by waiting until Friday night to wash your hair.
Just kidding.
Not really.

9 to 5 File: Navy Separates

Hi guys! I'm debuting my 9 to 5 Style series today! This series of workwear posts will feature more conservative, and traditional office styles on Monday.  On Friday, the outfits will be more office casual and fashion forward.

This concept is not new, but I personally developed it because of my full time job as an attorney in Miami.  I have been practicing for a little over 9 years now, and believe me when I tell you, I have seen some pretty scary outfits that people try to pass off as office appropriate.

Scooped necklines exposing cleavage? Check.  Hemlines 10 inches above the knees? Check. Sleeveless, tight dresses paraded into the courtroom? Check. Skintight leggings paired with long, untucked tunics? Check.
You would not believe what some women wear to work!

My hope for this style series is that working women who have to go to and from the office all week, have a chance to get a bit of fashion inspiration from the posts and still dress professionally.  In between, I will still continue to show weekend outfits.

Style File: Happy Camper + How to Style Leopard Pants

Hi! Happy Tuesday, Happy Camper!

I wanted to tell you that I'm staring a new series on the blog that is going to tentatively be called "9to5." Every Monday and Friday I'm going to feature a series of workwear posts that you can use to help inspire your 9 to 5, work week outfits.  The outfit posts on Monday are going to feature a series of more professional and conservative looks (while still maintaining a bit of fun fashion flair) while the looks on Friday will be more casual and better suited for those days at the office that are all about counting down to the weekend. In between I will still have my regular outfit posts, of course :) Stay tuned!

Now, on to today's' look.  I love pairing t-shirts with everything and anything in my closet!  Weekends in Coconut Grove are super casual, and my looks for Saturdays and Sundays usually reflect that.  Whether it's leopard pants like the ones I have one in these pictures or a high waisted skirt, I love mixing high end pieces with low end pieces and mixing and matching t-shirts with the other items in my closet.

Spring Cargo Jacket

I have searched high and low for the perfect, Miami appropriate, Spring time parka/ utility jacket.  I finally found it last week at Forever 21.  This baby is less than $35 and perfect, although the sizing is a bit on the larger side ( similar here and here) I am wearing an XS and you can see from the photos that it's slightly oversized on me.  I picked it up in the color 'light olive.'  We had the perfect bout of cool weather hit this weekend; a Friday night, cold rain downpour turned into a perfect Miami weekend.
Other options for this type of jacket can be found here, here, and here. (2 of them under $45, one under $100).
