Today, we're discussing the new Zac Posen for MAC collection. The packaging is a hunter green, lightweight plastic, with bronze accents. It's got a sleek, minimalistic feel with the classic Zac Posen logo on all items. Products range in price from $18 (mascara) to $54 (square dome brush).
There are a few face brushes in the collection that I honestly did not care for. The MAC 168 Angle Contour brush could have been more dense in my opinion. At $36, it felt a bit flimsy and shed a bit.
There's a white, translucent setting powder called the Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder ($27, pictured below). It's absolutely silky and velvety. It melts into the skin upon contact and blends really well. It it reduces shine. It comes in a mirrored compact but does not include an applicator. One thing I wanted to say about this is that I'm not sure how this would perform with flash photography. These types of powders work well at reducing shine, but they sometimes produce flashback with nighttime photography. I know that the Make Up For Ever HD Powder is similarly white, and definitely does.
The standout product from this line is the eye shadow palette. The Eye Z You Palette ($43) features six cool toned, soft, easily blendable eye shadows. They're quality shadows with very good pigmentation. There's a good range of crease and lid colors here; you've got a great variety to play with and can create lots of different eye looks (swatches below). I liked the colors a lot because while you think you've seen them before, upon closer inspection, they've got just a little something to make them unique. There is one matte color (upper left hand corner) which is so, so soft - this one is great to help all the rest of the colors fuse together. The rest of the shadows have subtle sheen to them. My favorites? The purple and gray shades.
The second product from the collection that I really enjoyed was the lipstick. There are three shades in this collection 1) Dangerously Red 2) Darling Clementine and 3) Sheer Madness.
Dangerously Red is a true red with blue (not orange or coral) undertones. It appears hot pink in the tube, but transfers as a classic red (see swatches below). It's creamy, long lasting, and dries down to a semi-matte. It's comfortable to wear and does not dry out the lips. I did not test out Darling Clementine - I'm not one for orange lipsticks. Sheer Madness (Lustre) is so good. It is a sparkly, sheer lipstick with the slightest hint of baby pink. The consistency is totally different than Dangerously Red - this is much less opaque. It allows for layering, by letting the color underneath shine through. When worn alone, it make my lips a soft pink color with a hint of sparkle.
