Orchid: The Pleasure Garden, Miami

Have you guys heard of the show, Orchid yet?  I was so excited to have had the opportunity to have been treated by Orchid to dinner and their wonderful show!

It is a traveling show that debuted in Miami recently and will be playing through the New Year.
The show is being touted as Cirque du Soleil meets Moulin Rouge, and I have to say, that it lives
up to these comparisons.

The Orchid experience begins by entering the gated circus area, where you're met with their "pleasure garden" consisting of different areas that are made to look like a traveling 19th century circus, complete with a "vintage European cabaret tent" and restaurant.

Miami's award winning and beloved chef, Michelle Bernstein (of Michy's) lent her skills to the pop up restaurant where we had dinner.  The food was delicious!  For starters, we ate the jamon serrano and cheese croquettas - they were so good. Crispy on the outside and perfectly melded flavors on the inside.  For the main course we ordered Michy's Fried Chicken and Snapper Francaise Al Mojo, which were both winning entrees.
(Click below for the rest of this post)

Inside view of the restaurant; menu; and tickets.
Michy's Fried Chicken (so moist, and cooked to fried chicken perfection).
Croquettas with jamon serrano (who doesn't love that).
I love little bites, and these were my favorite treat of the evening.
My love at dinner; restaurant entrance; Snapper Francaise al Mojo (delicious, flaky and tart).
The show is an assortment of burlesque acrobatics and dancing, coupled with musical theater.
The premise is centered around The Creator, and his finest creation, Orchid.  Orchid is not one to escape temptation and falls victim to the charismatic Bee Keeper who leads her astray and confines her.  She soon realizes that her true love is the Creator but that's all I'll tell! You should watch for yourselves to find out the ending.

Beautiful circus tent; one of the first segments of the show.
While there was no live orchestra, the performers all sang their hearts out and impressively so, while dangling upside down from drapes, wearing next to nothing.  It seemed to me that the first half of the show was the shows' original score, while the rest of it featured performances with modern songs by artists like Rhianna and Madonna (to name a few).

It was definitely an entertaining show, that is worth a watch, in my opinion.  I hadn't seen anything like this in Miami before, and I'm glad to have had the chance to have attended!  Thank you to Gabriela Navarro of Temporary Entertainment, Judith Fereday of Camron PR, and show creator David Schwarz for the invite.

Disclaimer: if you have a problem with nudity, nipple tassels, g-strings, or fire breathing maybe this is not the show for you.  Also, if you're squeamish when it comes to things like  contortionists - like this little lady in the picture below, you may want to steer clear of that particular segment in the show.

I spared you the most graphic pictures; she basically turned herself inside out and then knotted her upper torso. Yikes!
Have I mentioned how fabulous some of the costumes were? Look at these fab feathers!

Our favorite fire breathing kitty.

This Susana Monaco tube top I have in every color I can think of. I'm a tube top girl.  Yes, I still wear them, I pair them with pencil skirts, jeans, maxis, whatever, and this particular one is very flattering and the fabric is great.

I bought these Seven for All Mankind High Shine Skinny Jeans in the color Petrol Blue High Shine - I love coated skinny jeans, and this color is phenomenal. I wish you could see them better, because they really are a great deep teal color and like all Seven for All Mankind Jeans, they fit like a glove, true to size and are ultra-flattering.

DKNY Clutch (here) was a TJMaxx find.  This is a really well made purse.  The detailing on it is beautiful.  It has an optional gold chain strap and it comes with a dustbag.  The leather is super soft and very delicate. It has a magnetic clasp closure and several zippered pockets and compartments on the inside.  It's also a good size, and bigger than most of my clutches, which is nice.
